Basketball and Missionary Work

Greetings,

This week we were able to play basketball on Thursday night with the youth. We had them invite their friends to come play, so 2 non members were there!! I can't believe how hard it is to play in a carpet gym. There was literally no space, but we made it fun. The only thing that I can really do is just out run everyone, so that's what they had me do.

This week we have been focusing on finding people to teach, and we have been trying to avoid tracting as it is not effective at all. So we go around to public places to find people to speak with. This is something that we have been doing regularly, but since we have been in the apartment sick last week, and just started back up we were a little rusty. I guess the terms you use it or you lose it, is really true. I normally am decent at sparking up a conversation with people, but the first lady that we saw, I just blurted out, "Do you like Jesus?" I guess that worked out okay, because we are going by tonight to teach her. I guess you don't have to be that eloquent.

I had the opportunity to give a talk in sacrament meeting yesterday. I got a text on Saturday saying that they needed me to give a talk because someone bailed. So I gave a short talk. I didn't even write any of it down. I just got up and spoke for like 6 minutes and it was interesting to say the least.

Also this week we were walking around an apartment complex and this little kid just looks up from his bike and told my companion, Elder Olsen, that he looked like a guy from a scary movie that he saw. This kid was just five years old, so I just busted out laughing. It was pretty funny. Then when we were at the mall talking with these people, this lady wouldn't believe us when we kept telling her that we don't party on the weekends. I guess it's just the culture down here. I hope ya'll have a good week.

Being sick as a missionary isn't all that fun.

Howdy Y'all haha,

This week went by pretty slow due to the fact that I was jumped and was beaten up pretty badly. Just kidding, I had the flu, but I felt like I had been beaten up. So I got to stay in for a few days. But being sick as a missionary isn't all that fun, due to the fact that we can't watch tv, or watch many movies. So I caught up on some sleep. The Madison ward, and especially, Sister Alhalteh (my mission mom) were so great to me. Sister Alhalteh, the second she heard I was sick, texted us and told us that she was making us food, so that I could get better. I honestly love that family so much!

I did get better luckily, and we were able to go work a bit on Saturday. So we went to see this investigator who had told us the first time we met her, that she already knew that the Book of Mormon was true, but that she had lost it, and couldn't find her copy so she requested a new one. We were so excited thinking that she was a golden investigator... but this time when we went to see her, she told us that we didn't have to come back but that she just wanted the book. I was so shocked, and I kind of went at her a little bit with my words, for example I was like, So you know the Book of Mormon is true, and that we are the only True church, and you don't want to join? And she said no. I was shocked, and devastated at the same time.

But that is all from your boy! I hope everything is going well for you and that you have a great week!!

Exchanges

This week has flown by, due to the fact that we had so many exchanges. So I was able to go on exchanges with our district leader and I got booted down to South Jackson. It was a lot of fun, because the people are pretty humble and we got to teach a bunch. While I was there, we went to a mall to go talk with people. It was crazy because I was the only white person there. It was funny because black people still don't really like white people here, so I got a lot of glares. But it is all good. We also have been trying to organize a gospel study class, on Wednesdays. Every church has one down here on Wednesday, but us. So we are going to be starting one so that we can invite the people that we meet to it. Then on Saturday, we got a text from a missionary, Elder Jensen. His companion had been sick all week and he had been inside most of the week, so he was going insane. So he asked if he could switch with one of us and go out. We had dinner that night with the Alhalteh's and they took us out to a Arabic restaurant. Arabic food is so good. That is probably one of my favorite things that I eat on my mission! Have a great week.

Spending time in Canton

What a week, we were able to go up to this city called Canton. We can teach a lot of lessons there, but we also have a few Bible referrals so we tried contacting them. It was pretty cool. We also found a lady who actually requested a Book of Mormon. When we went to her home, she told us this long story about how she received a revelation from God. She went and told her pastor about it, and her pastor told her that women can't receive revelation. So, she got mad and left haha. She has been searching for a church ever since then. She came across the Book of Mormon on Facebook, and just felt something inside her say get it and read it. It is so cool to see how the Lord will lead and guide us to the people who are ready for the gospel. If this had not happened, we would have never been able to find her. Besides that, it has not been too eventful down here!! I hope that everyone has a great week!!!
