Greetings from Bawcomville

Good Morning Y'all:)

This week has been a nice week because we had a car, and also a week of a lot of work. Two weeks ago, we lost contact with our most progressing investigator, when her and her boyfriend were going through some issues. They split up which is a big miracle, because now she is living the law of chastity. So all she needs to do is to come to church for 2 weeks and then she will be able to enter into the waters of baptism, which is amazing. I really think that she will make it.

It's kind of funny in this area. In my past 2 areas I have become really close with some members and we had a rough time getting close with investigators, but in this area I barely know the members and I am super close with the investigators. It is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time though, because as missionaries we can't do it all by ourselves and if the ward would help we would be able to get a lot more work done. So that has been pretty tough. But we have just been working our best and doing all that we can and I have really seen that the Lord has been blessing us. For example one of our investigators needed a ride to church, but we couldn't find anyone to come pick up her and her kids. So the Lord was kind enough to bless her with a car. It's just times like that where you are just so thankful that you aren't out here by yourself but that Jesus Christ is here helping you in His work.

Yesterday we were supposed to go out and find people because most people would be home since it was Memorial Day, and it would be a great missionary opportunity to talk with everyone. So we did that and we went tracting at about 7 at night right before we were to have dinner at 8. We were driving in an area and I felt like I had the spirit tell me that we should go to this house. So we went down the street and parked our car and walked back a few houses to go knock on her door. We knocked and the lady wasn't very friendly and I started to get frustrated as we went on down the road. I was just thinking why did I feel like we should start here. And before that I had told myself that we will knock to our car and then get in and go. So we knocked for about a half hour and no one was letting us in or wanting to talk with us. So we got to the last door and the family was outside and was just barely finishing their ciggs. We began to talk with them and they let us teach them. The really cool thing was when I was talking about the Book of Mormon, I was telling them that it was a book from the ancient America's and that it was written by the native Americans. And the guy told us that he was native and he got really interested in reading it. This experience really shows that after all we can do, the Lord will honestly help you with the rest. I miss Y'all so much and hope that you are having a great summer and enjoying the snow in the middle of May haha.

A week of highs and lows

Greeting dear friends and family,

Talk about a week of highs and lows...

This week our best investigators, had a huge fight. They have been together for 7 years and I think that they have 3 kids together, but they never wanted to get married. So anyways everything has been getting better for them as we have been meeting with them. (I'm going to just use the first initials of these people as I tell their story.) So, M got another job and finally got a car so we were super excited for them because they would finally be able to come to church. We went over there Saturday evening to go visit them and invite them to church! So we get there and it was just R sitting outside on the steps and he looked upset so we started talking with him, and apparently M had been with another guy Friday night. They were at their house when R got home, and the guy with M pulled a gun on R... It was super crazy. We have tried calling her and have had no response. It has been very frustrating because they have been progressing the best out of all our investigators. It's like they have just dropped off the face of the earth. We are thinking that we might have to go to her work and visit her to see what is going on.

Also to give an update on Martha and Jorge.... Jorge tells us that he knows the Book of Mormon is true so we are putting him the test to see if he truly does by giving him Moroni 8 to read. It talks about how baptizing little kids is wrong, and Jorge is a catholic. We gave him this challenge last week, but he hasn't done anything... He wont read it. Luckily Martha did. She loves the Book of Mormon and so does their 2 daughters. All 3 would be baptized if Jorge would allow them to.

Anyways besides that a few weeks ago, Elder Zundel and I had one restoration pamphlet left, and we wouldn't be getting any new ones for a week or two. And while I was riding my bike I saw this guy. He waved to me first, and I stopped and started talking with him. He asked if I had anything for him, and I felt like I should give him my last pamphlet. Little did I know that he was actually going to read it. He got onto Mormon.org and requested a Book of Mormon. We got contacted by the church referral people and told that we needed to go deliver a Book of Mormon to this household. At this time I had totally forgotten this man's name and everything. So we punched his address into the GPS and went to look for it. We got to the destination and it was a fireworks store. I was pretty disappointed because we thought someone had just punched in their work address and the phone number they gave us didn't work. But luckily I remembered that I had stopped and talked with this man at that same place. We then went behind the store and there was this little camper and we knocked on it. The man I had talked to opened the door and it all clicked in my mind and made sense. He told us that he had read the pamphlet and that it said that he needed to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. So we gave him the Book Of Mormon and he told us to come back another time. So we gave him about a week-and-a-half and we went back to see him. He told us that he has read all the way to Moroni, which is crazy fast. He told us that he knows it is true and that he has had friends that have tried to turn him against it, but he told them that he can't deny the Book Of Mormon because he knows it is true and we haven't even taught him a thing! Talk about ready! Well I hope Y'all have a good week and that you don't miss me too much! haha

Bike Week

Howdy Y'all!!! You might want to read this one. It's actually pretty cool and a little funny.

This week for me has been a super tiring one. This week we were on bikes and the temperature has just been blazing hot. But I love it so much especially biking and listening to music. I think I have too much fun biking.

I am going to start off with Martha and Jorge. We have been doing service for them every week. We help them pick up eggs, and trust me I never want to eat an egg again, because it is so disgusting. But we do it anyway, and we have been trying to help Jorge gain a testimony of the book of Mormon. His wife and 2 daughters have one and want to be baptized, but Jorge won't let them and has and is stil being stubborn. This week we did another faith flip with him where we asked him to pray and ask God to lead him to a spot in the Book of Mormon that he needs to read. The past 2 times Elder Maughan and I did it, he flipped to a chapter on how we need to be baptized. Martha took that as a sign but Jorge was like whatever. But this week we had him pray and flip to a chapter and he chose 3 Nephi 28... in my head I was like this isn't a good chapter for him, why did he flip to this one? So we read it and it talks about the 12 disciples in the Americas and 3 of them want to live forever and the other 9 want to have celestial glory when they are done with this life. I had no idea what happened, but it had to be the spirit. Jorge at the end of our reading told the member who speaks Spanish that there is something in his heart that won't let him deny the Book of Mormon!! I was so happy, but he is still being stubborn and not coming to church. But we are going to work with him.

Besides that we have just been biking around in West Monroe. It was pretty funny and a little sad. So in this story, I say I just had more faith than my companion... So since it is bike week for us we ride on some roads like 4th North which is busy and goes 45 mph. And these roads have no shoulder. So we bike on the side of the road and my companion is a little slower than me. I totally thought he was behind me but we were heading back to our apartment and I got there, and I look back and think he's just a minute behind. But after about 10 minutes he finally showed up. I wondered what happened, but while he was biking he got hit by someones mirror on their car. Luckily he didn't fall or didn't get hurt, but he was just a little shocked. I say he got hit because he didn't have enough faith haha, but I'm really just glad that he was okay. Now don't worry about me. I will be fine when we bike:). But the struggle when biking is that you sweat a lot and you can't get out of the heat. So you just keep sweating. The biggest struggle about that is leaving a sweat mark on someones couch when they invite you in haha.... My companion tells me that I need to wear darker colored pants. Besides that nothing too crazy has happened, except that we met a guy living in a trailer, that used to make 4 million dollars a month, and that has been to heaven twice and hell twice... I think he had too much crack before we got there... haha. I hope y'all have a good week!!

The one picture is just an example of the struggle during bike week I hope y'all get a little laugh out of it

This week has been tracting with no one letting us in

Howdy Y'all

This week for me was a week of adjustment due to transfers. I got to say goodbye to Elder Maughan and sent him off early in the morning. I then waited around with some other missionaries for our new companions to come in. So my new companion is Elder Zundel. He is from Ogden Utah and is a good guy. We have been working hard this week trying to continue where Elder Maughan and I left off. So that has been good.

This Thursday we went to Martha and Jorge's to help them pick up eggs and to teach them. Luckily a member comes with us that speaks Spanish. He teaches them in Spanish, and we pretty much just sit there and try to follow a long. I really wish I could speak Spanish so I could understand what they are saying. But the lessons in Spanish have been helping a lot. They have come so far since the first time I met them. They are actually coming to church next Sunday. It's kind of funny because it's fast Sunday and Martha really wants to go to it.

Besides that we apparently had bad weather, I guess. Every time I hear that I just laugh thinking that they hype it up so much, because I haven't really seen bad weather while I have been down here in the south. It may have rained hard for a few minutes and thundered. Anyways besides that this week has been a few hours of tracting and no one letting us in. I am not sure what happened but it seemed like everyone was just to hard to let us in.

Then on Friday we had a bible referral, so we went and contacted her. It was so funny. We began to teach her and her family came and they were Southern Baptist and have heard so much about Mormons, that they pretty much stopped the lesson and just began asking us all these different questions. A lot of them are your typical ones, but then they got into some really weird stuff that people have been telling them. So we were answering their questions and they would ask, where is that in the Bible? So we would show them. But when we asked what their pastor would tell them, it was this crazy stuff that wasn't in the Bible and they would believe it. It is so sad how they ask us to prove it, but they don't ever ask their pastor to prove it. Besides that this week I gave a talk and that is pretty much it from me. I hope Y'all have a blessed week.
