One year mark!!

What's good y'all?

This week for me has been crazy and a lot of fun. On Tuesday we were able to go see Kenneth. But sadly he didn't come to church this week. I think he is still feeling bad about being offended at church. He hasn't been since.

On Wednesday we had district meeting and that was a lot of fun! The district I am over is so great. We have a lot of fun but also work incredibly hard.

Then Thursday I hit my one year mark and that day was so much fun. We went to Chick-Fil-A and then went and did some work. Then a member took us up to Yazoo. On the way we stopped at Wendy's and luckily a different member paid for us. But we got up to Yazoo and both our appointments fell through so we called another guy and we went and taught him a lesson. Since I have been out on the mission longer, I kind of just threw a lesson together! This guy we are teaching... His name is Max Weldon and he is a stud. He knows his bible well but we stumped him pretty good. We got there and we opened up to Isaiah 29 and after we read I asked him a few questions. He had no idea, but then I explained to him what it meant. He was mind blown at it. He is slowly but surely progressing. It is great.

Then on our way home the member took us out to eat because he didn't pay the first time. So my one year mark was a lot of fun and we were fed well! But the best part of all, was we were able to burn a shirt!!

Then later that week on Saturday we went on exchanges with the zone leaders. We had so much fun together. We worked hard and also had fun. At the start of the day we tracted then went and got a lunch. After lunch while we were trying a few people and tracting it started pouring but we continued to work. Then later that day, I got roasted kind of, by this guy on the side of the street. While we were driving by he was giving out some newspapers, so I tried giving him a card. At the start, I asked what he had, and he asked me if i could read. He was lucky I saved some choice words for him and that the light turned green or he would've been owned. But as we were driving away, I tried giving him a picture of Christ and he asked who that was, and I said Christ. He said that Jesus was a European... but that he was from Africa. I should've have said to him, "You say you can read, but do you understand what you read?" I then wanted to share some insulting words with him, but I have changed and I try to hold my tongue in those situations. That is what missionaries do.

We then got to our area and had a lesson with a less active. After they gave us a referral and it was the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me on my mission. We knocked on this guy's door and he opened up and started crying... just balling. He invited us in and we sat in silence for a few minutes then me and elder Scoresby started talking to him. He told us that he is a crack cocaine addict, and that he had just got on it 2 hours ago. So we talked to him about the atonement and how Christ has overcome all things so that he can help us. Then we left.

Today we did service with the Stake President. He was talking about our investigators. He told us that members can be your biggest asset or the worst liability. It got me thinking whether I would be an asset or if I would be a liability. The missionaries love assets.

This week has been a great one. I hope y'all are doing great and having a good summer. I would love to hear from y'all. But have a blessed one!!

Playing some ball

Howdy,

This week for me was an interesting and hot one!! So Tuesday was transfers. Elder Conger and I will be staying together for at least 6 more weeks. But luckily, I was able to still go up to transfer point and see all of my friends that were getting ready to go home.

Then later that day, since there were so many missionaries leaving, they had 2 of them come work with us before they headed home. So I took one of them, and we had a fun last day. I think we did it all. We tracted, had Sonic and played some hood ball with some little black kids. They thought we were sucky white boys, so me and the other elder beat them 24-0. We taught them the lesson of humility and that white boys can ball.

Then later that week, as we were tracting, Elder Conger and I, came across some guys playing one on one. I challenged them to a game and said that the loser had to say the prayer. So we started playing and to make a long story short we lost... 29-25. I had 24 of our 25 points. It felt like I was playing 1 on 2. but it was all good. We said a prayer, then left.

Then on Thursday we went and did some service at the Mississippi Food Network. I love it there, but it is kind of scary still, because the female inmates have box cutters. But they are cool and we get along with them great.

Then on Saturday, we were getting low on our miles for our car so we decided that we should walk. It wasn't that smart of us because apparently there was a heat advisory, and it was super hot! And we forgot to bring some water. Luckily after we found a new investigator we were called over by this lady. She was a friend of some members and apparently had been to church a few times a while back. She gave us two water bottles and then also a paper towel to wipe the sweat off of us. It was really nice.

We then started walking towards a new area to try and find a few people and another guy pulled up next to us and offered to give us a ride. We were right there so we declined it, but we gave him our number and he wants to take us to dinner soon. So I am looking forward to that.

Then once we finished it all, we were heading home when a member saw us and gave us a ride and bought us a drink! It was really nice that he did that. The members down here are so great to us!

After that we changed out of our soaking wet clothes and went to a members for a wedding reception, and being courteous we took them a gift. So we wrapped up a hard cover Book of Mormon and gave it to them because the girl this member married isn't a member. Hopefully she'll read it, but sadly her family is against Mormons. We were leaving and her brother that is like nine years old tried to dis us by saying, "Go back to school where you belong" which makes no sense. But he was lucky that I was a missionary or he would have been sad with the dis I would've hit him back with. Anyways, I hope y'all have a good week.

A better week

What's up everyone?

I hope y'all have had a good week. For me this week was a lot better week.

This week we went up to Yazoo city and that place is crazy. It is fun though because we were able to teach a lot, because the people are so humble. The only problem with that, is that they live 50 miles from the church, and not to be down about the people in this area, but they have a hard time keeping commitments. It could be because of many things, but it makes it hard to progress with them. But we had a lot of fun. We saw a recent convert and she is great. She has hardly anything but she signed up to feed us. It reminded me of the widows mite. So that was very humbling, because she had little, but was willing to share with us. She lived in a little trailer. She even kept her pigs inside.

We also saw our man, Kenneth, and he is doing good. Last week he got offended by a member but he is a stud and he told us that he forgave the member. He still wants to be baptized.

Finally on Sunday, we had a meeting with an area seventy on how our stake is going to be working with less active members better. So me and my companion got an invite by our mission president to attend this meeting and it was really neat. We talked a ton, and I learned a lot. I will probably get to go on a split with him next Tuesday because he and one of the stake presidency members is going with me or my companion and another companionship in the other Clinton ward. It'll be interesting, but I hope I get to go with Elder Bloothe he is such a great guy. I hope everyone is doing well!!

This week was really rough

I missed being home on the 4th, but I was well taken care of, because of the Alhaltehs. We went to their area for an exchange. It was the 4th and it was the day that their son, Tarek, got home. So we got to go to the ward coming home party. It was really fun.

Exchanges were fun, but after that, this week was really rough. A lot of our appointments fell through and not many people were very open to meeting with us. And to top it off a member, during the gospel principles class, offended our investigator. He made the member that drove him to church take him home after this happened.

So this week was very tough. But we are going to get it this next week and work hard and hopefully we will have more success this week than we did last week. That's pretty much it for me... sorry! It was such a boring week, so there is just not a whole lot to write about. Next weeks will be more interesting!!

Happy 4th of July

Good day mates,

I hope y'all are enjoying the 4th of July weekend and boating and fireworks and all of that fun... because good old Mississippi doesn't sell fireworks at stores. I don't know why or what's wrong with the state because it's green as ever and nothing would burn.

Anyways, this week has been another amazing week as a missionary. We were able to continue to meet with Kenneth and he was actually able to bring his mom and sister to church. They probably thought it was one of the weirdest things ever, because it was fast and testimony meeting and every testimony started out with "I would like to bear my testimony, that I know this church is true." I thought it was funny. Next time we meet with them we will for sure be talking about church.

Besides that it is getting super hot. But luckily, we have the car for 5 days out of the week. Sorry I don't have too much. Not a whole lot super exciting has happened this week. But luckily I have pictures.:) I hope y'all have a good week.

Love your boy,

Elder Corbett

Oh yeah, I forgot. If any of you remember my MTC companion that ran away 8 hours in.... I saw him at zone conference. Glad he made it out finally. He is a good guy!

These lizards are everywhere down here. You can even just hang them from your ear :)
