Goodbye MJM 💔

Cheers Mates!

Big news happened this week, so we had an emergency zone conference. The Mississippi Jackson Mission or in other terms, the MJM will no longer be a thing come July 1st 2018 💔. The missionary numbers have been decreasing. After the announcement about the change in missionary age, the numbers jumped up to 80,000 and now are down to 68,000. And due to the fact that the people in Africa and Brazil are more open to the gospel than the people in the South they will most likely be sending more missionaries to those countries and fewer to the states. It makes me sad to see that it will be merged into the Louisiana Baton Rouge mission. So our mission President talked about the group who would go home after this change in August might have the option of going home in June. So that they wouldn't have to deal with all of the crazy commotion for a month. I don't know what will happen, but I will let you know when I get more information.

Anyways this week has been another busy one. We had 2 exchanges and had to organize a emergency zone conference. Elder Dugmore and I have made the joke that we have barely seen each other this week, and we are companions. My first exchange was with Elder Conger. If you remember him, I finished his training in Clinton. We had a good exchange and worked hard. It is a lot of fun to be with someone that you have already served with. We got to talk about all of the good times that we used to have. So that was a highlight.

Then I got to go on an exchange with a struggling missionary. It was rough because his struggle is that he freezes up when he starts talking about the gospel. It makes me frustrated because he will talk my ear off about some things, like why he uses a certain pencil over any others. He will talk to me for more than 5 minutes, but when you ask him a basic question about the gospel he goes mute. We have been trying to work with him but he isn't making any progress. Right now we are at the point of not knowing how to best help him. Please pray for him.

Then another highlight of this week was that we met this sweet dude named Silas and his friend Chris. These guys are straight gangsters but they love us and they said they would die for us. It's great. We have been going to their house almost everyday reading the Book of Mormon with them and they are so cool. We are actually going to play Basketball with them today so I am hyped.

A week full of miracles

Good Morning Everyone!!!!

This week has been full of miracles. Like WOW!!! So Wednesday we had our Zone Conference. This was a very interesting Zone Conference because this past week it has been so cold! Tuesday it even snowed. I hear that it has been snowing more here than in Logan lol. When it snows down here in the South everything shuts down. The Roads get really bad, and no one can drive its kinda funny.

Back to Zone Conference... it was almost canceled because we have a few missionaries that had to drive pretty far distances to get there, and the roads were a little icy. We got the information from our mission president that we were just going to push it back a day. It went very well. Elder Dugmore and I got to teach for about 15 minutes and we just power packed it with talking about miracles and how we can receive them. So Elder Dugmore and I had to lead by example with it.

On Thursday we had a pretty cool story. We were trying one of our investigators and we were talking with her a little but she was sick and it was super cold. She told us to come back another day. We went to her neighbors house, and were talking with them when this lady who was sick comes walking out in the cold in a robe. She knocks on her neighbors door and asks if we will come back and teach her grandson because he is going down the wrong road and she knew we were the only ones who could get to him. We taught him and it was so much fun.

Then on Saturday we had a former investigator that we went and saw. We had a great experience with him and his daughter. We broke down any barriers and we have become really good friends. It was really cool because as we left we invited them to church and they said they would come. Now in Jackson people will tell you that but they never come, but we were hoping they would come. Then Sunday at church, we waited outside and then 5 minutes to starting time, we heard a car door shut and it was them!!! I was so happy and they said they loved church!! These are just a few of the miracles that Elder Dugmore and I have been seeing here in Jackson.

This Saturday we are supposed to have a baptism. Pray that it goes through because it will more likely mean that we will stay together.... I hope!! Please pray that we stay together!! I love you guys:)

Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Snow in Jackson!!

Right now I am emailing you from a members iPad due to the fact that it is snowing outside right now, and when it snows here everything shuts down. So the libraries are closed so it is nice to have some cool members that let us come over to email our families. :)

This week has been a really good one! I have been loving my time in Jackson. Elder Dugmore and I have been getting a long great. It has been so nice to have a good companion that I get along with like he is one of my best friends. This week we have been working our tails off! We have such a big teaching pool that we aren't able to have daily contact with them. It's nice because we are always busy and it is so easy to find something to do here in Jackson. We have had some great lessons this week where we helped the investigator.

One of our investigators name is Rochell and we got to her house this week and she was just cussing up a storm and there was a bad spirit in the room. But she was willing to have a lesson and we helped her recognize the spirit she felt before we got there to the time we were deep in our lesson where the spirit was strong. This is just one of many times that the spirit has been in the room so strong that you can't deny what you are feeling.

The hard part about Jackson is that people forget what they feel so quickly and don't act upon what they know to be true. It is sad but we are going to continue to work hard and work with faith to help these people.

This Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. day. We went to these new museums that had just opened up for Mississippi history and also civil rights history. It's called the 2 museums. It was crazy because admission was free and if anything is free, everyone in Jackson will be there. We served there for about 5 hours handing out maps and helping people know where to go. It was hectic because there were such big lines and people were waiting outside in the cold. Luckily for them it was a warmer day than we had in the past week and the storm didn't hit until today. I am doing well I hope everyone else is doing okay:)

J-Town

Bueno Dias Mis Amigos:)

My week has flown by! I have been loving it here in Jackson!! So my comp is Elder Dugmore and he is such a good guy! We get a long great. We have so much fun and work hard!

My first day in Jackson was Thursday, and we have been busy ever since. On Thursday we got back to our apartment and dropped off all of my luggage and then we had to travel to give someone a blessing. We did that and when we were walking back to the truck, (yeah we drive a Toyota Tacoma:)) there was this large man that was looking for his appointment. So we helped him find it. It was so funny because he asked us to push him in a wheel chair. I was dying because Elder Dugmore got to push him around. The guy started telling us about how he used to be a drug dealer and this was just the start of the conversation. Then we had dinner with a member and a few lessons. We got back at like 9:30, so my day was from 5 am to 9:30 pm. I was exhausted, so I unpacked a little bit, and went to bed. I woke up and we went running and then we weren't going to have any time Friday for me to unpack so I did it between 7:30 and 8:15. It was great because I'd rather be this busy, than having nothing to do. So this shows how hard we have been working.

This weekend we did all that we thought we could to get our investigators to sacrament meeting. We got solid commitments, and we also found everyone a ride. We had around 10 people lined up for church. Then we woke up Sunday morning, and all of them start dropping like flies. Everyone came up with an excuse, and we only ended up having one person attend church. It was kind of rough and depressing because we did so much to get them there. I learned a lot about adversity and how we just have to push on through it.

That's pretty much it for this week, since I emailed you last Wednesday. I love you guys and I hope you have a good week.

I'm headed back to Jackson!

Whats up y'all!

It's your boy Elder Corbett. Sorry I haven't been sending emails out lately. I have been sick and have been really busy down here in Coushatta. I got a complaint from a fellow follower of my blog, Laura Keith. She told me that I need to start sending emails for my blog haha. So I'll try to be better at sending them out.

These past few weeks have been amazing. The members in Coushatta have treated my like I was one of their family! It was a way fun Christmas. I got to skype with my family, have some great food, and got to watch some firework get shot off. That's something that Utah needs to do, is to start selling fireworks in the winter because it is a lot of fun to sit around a fire and watch people shoot off fireworks.

But sadly I am getting transferred. I am going to miss all of the friends that I made. Coushatta has been one of my favorite areas. Not because of the area, because there isn't much there, but because of everyone that I met! Anyways I'll be transferred to Jackson Mississippi! I am going to be the zone leader there. I am super excited because it feels like I am going home haha. I say that because I have spent most of my mission in the Jackson area! Anyways I will update y'all on my adventures and luckily I have some pics to send to you. :)

I hope all is well and that you had a great New Years and that you stay true to your resolutions!

I love you and miss you!
